The 2006 World Cup: A Security Nightmare?
You bet it is, and -- not surprisingly -- Germany is leaving little to chance. It's the first World Cup tournament to use RFID technology to identify ticket holders, and it's not likely to be the last. From a closed-circuit television system so powerful that security personnel can zoom in and read the game program in a spectator's hand to tap-proof digital terrestrial trunked radio phones, GPS tracking, and chemical sprays for detecting whether rail tracks have been tampered with, it's a whole new game.
